Time

Let’s think about time, shall we? It goes without saying that we all know how to read a clock, watch, or time piece of some kind or other. Time is a simple thing. It ticks by whether we see it doing so or not. It ripens fruit and brings Fall and Summer and it is the one thing we never have enough of. It runs out too soon if you’re my age. Hell, I just got to know how to live life correctly!

I don’t matter to time and neither do you. For that matter, the universe, including Earth, doesn’t count much to time. Some days one has to wonder that if it weren’t for human need, time would not exist. You’d get an argument from scientists about that but it seems to be only us who depend on it to end our lives, sooner or later as time dreams of our replacements. Funny how we celebrate birthday’s when each year since our birth counts against us. Still, we have hope. Hope. What the hell is hope?

Nah, I’m not gonna go all depressing on you. I smile as I say this because I believe that life is time to prepare for eternity. Granted, our time is short, mine shorter than yours unless . . . time throws a roadblock against one of you because it is your time. You never know. Some day you might be watching a baseball game and the stands collapse. It’s happened before you know. I forget where exactly. Maybe Japan? Stands are one thing and life quite another. Some of us just plain run out of life and that is the fault of time. If you open a tin can and stick it in the cupboard time will make what is in that can go foul. It never ends, does it? Things that time can screw up for us.

Still, the actual function of time is what we depend on and the rest of the above cannot be withstood. What happens happens and time will tell us only after it happens; never before it happens. Fair, is not considered important to time. Naught of life is fair but there is sometimes luck involved and luck alone can stand against time. Time can’t lay a hand on luck except to make it run out for an individual. Then again, it is time to end this page and wish you all luck.
